Beechwood lost their first match back after the tour to a good Merstham side.   The home side once again lost the toss and were asked to bat first in dampish, but drying conditions, and put on a very respectable 179 for 5 in 46 overs, with Tony Freeman (59 - pictured right) and Hamish McLachlan (61) getting half-centuries.

In reply, Merstham were too strong for the hosts, easing their way to 182 for 2 in just 27.3 overs.  It was however, a very enjoyable game played in a good spirit, and one that marked the return of Lee Bates after several years away from the game to concentrate on his rock career.  It was like he'd never been away as he took a wicket with his second ball, and we'd like to thank both Lee and Scotty Bowman in helping us out on the day.
