Beechwood recorded their third win of the season with a 29 run victory over Chelsfield Park on a cold, blustery and miserable day weather-wise.

Tony Freeman decided to let K.H. Makin loose on the captaincy for the day, and the skipper's first controversial decision was to bat first on a wet pitch in poor conditions. There was method to his madness though, especially as he managed to negotiate a new ball for each innings. After a rain delay and early tea, Fraser Morris (34) and Bradley Hill (56) were the only two Beechwood batsmen who managed to score double figures, as the home team, in keeping with the weather, laboured to a drab 115 for 9.

Chelsfied Park suffered a couple of late withdrawls which meant they only had nine men on the day, but even being effectively 0 for 2 at the start of their innings, were still well in the game, and all three results were possible for a large majority of their run chase. Rob Pogose (3 for 34) and Fraser Morris (2 for 13) decimated their top order before Chelsfield Park commenced a fine rear-guard action. However, with eleven balls remaining in the match, Chris Savory bowled Wheatley and the game went to the hosts, although no one would have begrudged the visitors had they held on for a valiant draw.

In the end an enjoyable game in difficult circumstances - a special mention should go out to John Catterson who despite playing his first game of cricket of any sort, certainly looked the part and his one-handed catch to dismiss the dangerous Glennie was the champagne moment of the day.
