ashesBeechwood's attempt to bring the Ashes back home to Blighty came crashing down like an Austrian thunderstorm as they were soundly beaten in the big Friday clash against Velden on their annual tour there.

The hosts won the toss and batted first, scoring 236 all out in 37.5 overs - Morris pick of the bowling with 4 for 19.  A good total, but one Beechwood felt slightly optimistic in getting.  Unfortunately after a hearty lunch/tea wickets fell early and put the visitors behind the run rate, and despite some excellent chasing by Garnett and McCrea, Beechwood fell short by 40 runs, scoring 196 for 8 in their 40 overs.

On the Monday game, with storms forecast, an innovative T20 game was arranged with two innings.  This did not suit Beechwood's strengths at all and carnage ensued - please see attached scorecard for full details and only if you do not suffer from a nervous disposition.

However, despite the results, the tour was once again a great success, with Velden as immaculate hosts and the games played in great spirit.

We look forward to getting our revenge next year, although we won't be holding our breath that the urn will be returning with us!
