Beechwood enjoyed a 37 run win away at Groombridge in a game that ebbed and flowed as village cricket should.

Winning the toss and batting first on an ususually dry pitch at Groombridge for this time of year, the visitors got their runs quickly, firstly through their openers, which included a quickfire 52 from Fraser Morris, then Hamish McLachlan stole the show with an unbeaten 107 from 109 balls, assisted by a good 40 from Larry Culhane.

In reply the visitors were pegged back by Beechwood's "Spindians" Onkar Gramopadhye (4/45) and making a welcome return to Beechwood colours Prashant Patel (3/59).  But a fine partnership in the late-middle order between Dobson and Patel put the cat firmly amongst the pigeons as they bludgeoned the ball to all parts, and Beechwood were looking at grasping defeat from the jaws of victory.

However, the pace of Fraser Morris was introduced into the attack and this put an end to any thoughts the hosts had of victory - now it was a battle to hang on for a draw.  But with just ten balls remaining Prashant got the final wicket, and it was Beechwood's day.  A very enjoyable one, on and off the field.
