McCrea2013Beechwood escaped from a sun-drenched Orchard Field with a draw against a Merstham 1st XI in a good natured match.  The biggest cheer of the day was not from Centre Court at Wimbledon but by the Merstham team when they discovered their skipper had won the toss and elected to bat on a hot afternoon.  Despite a couple of early blips the away team settled in on a good batting track, with their opener Jon Lowe scoring his maiden hundred as Merstham finished on 211 for 6 at tea - Gramopadhye did a lot of bowling in the sun as his fine figures of 15.3 over, 3 for 60 suggested.

The hosts battled away after tea and tried to score quickly, however they were pegged back at regular intervals and although most got starts, no one really pushed on to get a big score.  McLachlan top scored with 36 and that was never going to be enough to chase down a good target.  As a footnote Ian McCrea (29*) once again finished not out and is now averaging 129.00 for the season!
