Beechwood lost their Ashes clash with CC Velden 91 on tour in a keenly-contested match.  Batting first, the tourists scored a healthy 216 for 4 in their 40 overs, including a magnificent maiden century for Hamish McLachlan (103*).  Fellow Kiwi Morris Fraser scored 51 and the total was thought to be defendable.

However after a fine lunch Velden got into the Beechwood bowling early, aided by extras once again, and got home with nearly three overs to spare.   Morris was the pick of the bowlers in a fiery spell of 2/22.

There was no chance of revenge as the Monday game was cancelled due to peristent rain, and Beechwood now have a year to plan their next Ashes assault.
