onkarThe sun shone once again at Orchard Field and once again Beechwood decided to bat first.  With last week's debacle still fresh in some minds, this was a bold statement from Captain Freeman and thankfully a week is also a long time in cricket.

Runs were not easy to get mind, especially in the first 20 or so overs, but the skipper held firm for a resolute 44, with Hamish McLachlan (23) the only other batsman to get into the twenties.  Thankfully extras chipped in with 24 valuable runs too as Beechwood finished on an even-par score of 148 for 7, with McCrea, Makin and 2013 debutant Morton ensuring the tail wagged a little.

Chelsfield Park looked well set for a fine victory on the run-chase, but the Beechwood bowlers dug in and took wickets at regular intervals, which eventually was vital in stemming the flow of runs.  Pick of the bowling came from Onkar Gramopadhye (3/47) and the 'Midnight Express' Ashley Woodward with a hostile 2/6.

Overall a very enjoyable game of cricket against our friendly visitors, and we hope this is the first of many tight encounters we have with them in the years ahead.
