Despite a spirited batting performance, Beechwood succumbed to a decent Sheen Park outfit, losing by four wickets in a keenly-fought 40 over match.  After winning the toss, the home side elected to bat first, and were immediately put to the sword by a new ball attack where the ball was doing plenty - the dangerous Morris fell for a duck and there were more than a few concerned faces as the Beechwood batsmen wondered if the first game debacle was about to be repeated.

Mark Gibbons - a fine all round performance for SheenMark Gibbons - a fine all round performance for SheenHowever, the middle order were made of sterner stuff, and after digging in for a while batting became a little easier.   Warner scored a fine 35 before getting a good one from Mark Gibbons, but Gramopadhye was majestic, scoring 62 whilst Garth Perkins bludgeoned a brutal 48.   At the end of the allocated overs, the hosts finished on 182 for 5 - which was a good effort after a precarious start.

In reply, Sheen Park never panicked, despite falling behind the run rate early on, and half-centuries from Nazir and Gibbons steered the visitors on course to victory (despite a mini-collapse of three wickets in an "interesting" over from yours truly here).

Sheen Park reached the target with three overs remaining - another wicket here and there and who knows how things would have turned out - but in the end Sheen were deserving of victory.   A final note of recognition goes to Lee Morton, who despite being hit on the nose in just the second over behind the timbers, valliantly carried on with the gloves and later in the field.  Hopefully the injury isn't too serious, and he will be fit enough to watch the rugby down the pub with us all next Saturday!
