Adrian SadlerBeechwood's opening match of the 2011 Austria Tour against the Velden 'B' side, resulted in a humiliating defeat and the European Ashes Championship given up, after a steady batting collapse seeing the visitors crawl to a meagre total of 114 all out in just 27.3 overs.  Adrian Sadler (pictured right) was the only batsman able to come out of the day with any pride, scoring an excellent 42 and preventing an even more embarrassing total.

In reply, after a hearty lunch, the tourists took a couple of quick wickets but were then put to the sword by Velden's no 3 Vansi, who scored a brutal 48 in double-quick time and led the hosts to the precipice of victory, which was achieved in just 15.4 overs and only three wickets down.   It is hoped that Beechwood will put up more of a fight on Monday otherwise a lot of beer will once again have be purchased from the excellent Velden CC bar!
